As we all know, us people who work in Libraries are good at locating most anything our customers are after. But locating the fate of rare and valuable books that had gone missing from a Library Collection? Well that’s another story…..
Librarians at East Meadow Public Library in Long Island, NY, came in for a surprise when they started tracking the loss of a couple of valuable books from their reference collection. Much to their amazement, they discovered that the suspect Library ‘patron’ had a penchant for rare and expensive books. The give away clue was his very active eBay account. Noticing the good rating given by his happpy customers, a check revealed tha an estimated 2200 books had been sold on the account over the past 11 years!
It seems that the online detective work by these Librarians has paid off. The thief has been caught and is to face prosecution. Read the full story in Library Journal.
