ressurection-bayCreating a deaf/hard of hearing person as the main protagonist and ensuring that the character is authentic is a serious challenge for any writer.  So coming to this novel with a wealth of experience living and working with deaf people, I was dubious that an author in their debut novel could really convey the complexity of a deaf person living in a hearing world as they traverse the daily battle of both understanding and being understood.

Viskic has not only succeeded in creating such a character, she has, in between creating a hair raising thriller in which Caleb Zelic hunts for the person who killed his good friend, allowed her readers a genuine glimpse into the world of Deaf people, an insight rarely given to the wider hearing community.  Great read!  Highly recommended.
