This inspirational TED video featuring photographer Laura Boushnak, a Kuwaiti-born Palestinian photographer whose work focuses on women, literacy, and education reform in the Arab world, highlights brave women who dare to read ….. who dare to seek an education.

Traveling to countries including Yemen, Egypt and Tunisia to interview and photograph women — schoolgirls, political activists and  60-year-old mothers – Boushnak brings to life their fight to overcome a culture which aims to stifle and suppress them.

This brief video captures a crystal clear message from these women:

Watching this TED video so close to International Women’s Day makes me think that there must be more we women could be doing to liberate the many women around the world who are stifled, shunned and restricted in ways those of us who live in the West really do not appreciate or fully understand.
