How many of us have fond memories of letting hours slip by as we browse the book laden shelves of our favourite bookshop? I know I have!
Like many of you, I’ve spent hours upon hours in bookshops – a pastime enjoyed since childhood. Whether you are there on your own, or share the experience with a friend or a loved one, the experience is so enjoyable and often so memorable.
So when a friend sent me a photo of Wild & Homeless Books it brought a flood of memories to mind of the countless hours I’ve spent in bookshops at all ends of the world! Located in Bridport, Dorset in England, stocking antiquarian and secondhand books, just the name of this bookshop is enough to ensure that I add it to my list for the day I visit England’s shores!
But a memorable bookshop I did visit was on a much longed for visit to Paris. How overwhelming it is to turn a corner and see the entrance to Shakespeare & Company Bookshop. How amazing this place is! Set in the heart of Paris, just opposite Notre Dame on the left bank, this treasure filled bookshop has shelves laden with books and a buzz of literature abounding. Allocate plenty of time to browse the many treats inside!
There are, truly, some fantastic bookshops around – both here at home as well as across Australia and overseas. Let me know of your favourite bookshop – I’d love to share them here with my readers.
I too have a favourite bookshop. It is in S.A in the wonderful town of Robe. It is called the Whistling fish. You can go in there have cake and coffee, find a book to read, talk with the wonderful owners and have a book recommended to you ( There are reviews on many of the books by the owners). It is in a beautiful setting and you can get lost in there for hours (good or bad weather as they provide for both).
It started life as a wool shed and now is this cool little book shop with new and pre loved books.
A must on bookshops to visit.
Cheers Colleen
